The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) was present over the Florida peninsula since about last Friday. It peaked over this past weekend and made for hazy afternoons turning our nice blue skies a brownish haze color. It also made for a few impressive sunsets worth getting your camera out and taking some pictures.
Each summer especially in July, the SAL makes the trek across the Atlantic Ocean from western Africa where it originates in the Sahara Desert. You can learn more about this phenomenon on the Saharan Air Layer Wikipedia article.
