A Morning Squall For Sunshine State Residents

Squall line clouds

The last two weeks have been very uneventful weather-wise across Florida, with mild temperatures and sunny skies. Finally this morning we received some rain and gusty winds with the passage of a weak squall line tracking ahead of this weekends cold front. The rain didn't last long, but as we are in the peak of the dry season, we'll take anything we can get closing out January.

Florida January Weather Very Mild

Amazing vivid cirrus clouds at sunrise to start the day off right.

While the nation has been experiencing extreme winter storms in the Pacific northwest, damaging dust storms in the southern Plains and violent tornadoes in the Deep South, the sunshine state has been under a very warm and stable weather pattern.

Mid January has brought normal very dry conditions to FL, but also this season, well above normal temperatures compared to last winter. There is a chance of rain and possible severe storms moving into the region late in the week, but at this time it's hard to know if all the upper-level support will track off to the north. We really could use the rain.
